The art of gift giving

In this post I am going to be talking about the art of gift giving and how to create the perfect gift for any occasion. In typical virgo fashion I believe the most important part of giving a gift is the presentation and thought that goes into picking out the individual elements of the gift itself. As someone who’s love language is acts of service I find great pleasure in creating personalized gifts for whatever the occasion may be.

The first step to giving a gift that won’t disappoint is to know the recipient well. If you are making a gift for a stranger it is important to at least have general knowledge of their likes and dislikes so you don’t miss the mark. Consider the occasion and what the person is celebrating. For instance, if you are making a gift for your friends baby shower, try to think about what other people might overlook. you can assume they will already be receiving a surplus of diapers and baby clothes, but what about post partum supplies for the mommy-to-be? what about the little items like bottle brushes and a thermometer to check babies temperature? gift with intent and a goal in mind.

Another thing to keep in mind when purchasing gifts for others is if the occasion has a theme or color scheme. I love a good color coordinated gift or a gift that matches to the theme of the party. For a jungle themed kids birthday party, consider wrapping your gifts on theme with the invite or including a kids book about jungle animals (or both)

Another concept I like is compiling multiple small gifts as opposed to one large ticket item depending on the occasion. choosing multiple small gifts requires more thought and detail then just choosing one item and wrapping it. An example of this would be the gift i provided for my baby shower raffle.

Obviously my baby shower was plant themed so the gift i put together stayed on brand. I planted rooted pothos cuttings in a cute decorative pot, created a jar full of my personal soil mix (be on the lookout for my post on my soil mixture), a gold watering can, a mint grow kit in terracotta pot, a green candle, and a pack of adorable houseplant themed stickers. Everyone wanted to win the plant and goodies. There is something personal and genuine about gifting cuttings or plants from your personal collection to friends and family, i love gifting plants because it gives others the chance to explore plant parenthood if they might not have done it by themselves or if they have their own plant collection to add to.

in addition to giving multiple gifts i also love a good basket to tie the entire thing together. This way your gift looks aesthetically pleasing and there is no need to waste a gift bag or wrapping paper when you can place all of your items in a decorative basket that can be used after the party too.

The last tip i have for giving a gift that will be appreciated is to ALWAYS include a small handwritten note - whether it be on a card or just on a piece of paper. there is nothing more meaningful than receiving a handwritten note full of love. If you cannot afford a gift a note is a great way to still give something meaningful and heartfelt.
