Your voice matters! I urge you to start asking questions and looking at the labels of the foods you regularly eat. Ultra-processed foods like store bought bread contain preservatives, seed oils, and a whole plethora of ingredients that should raise your eyebrow! By choosing whole, minimally processed ingredients, we nourish our body’s with the vital nutrients that God intended, but in the bigger scheme of things we also are supporting local businesses while giving back to ourselves and our bodies.
Sourdough bread is considered beneficial for gut health for several reasons: Sourdough is made through a natural fermentation process, which uses wild yeast and lactic acid bacteria from the environment. This fermentation breaks down gluten and phytic acid, making the nutrients in the bread more accessible and easier to digest. Sourdough typically has a lower glycemic index compared to other types of bread. This means it causes a slower rise in blood sugar levels, which is better for gut health and metabolic function. By breaking down anti-nutrients like phytic acid, sourdough can enhance the absorption of important minerals such as magnesium, iron, and zinc.
Incorporating sourdough into your diet could offer many benefits for your gut health while also providing a delicious alternative to the sugar-filled store bought bread.
As far as my other baked goods… everything in moderation ;)
